Job Summary:

Performance Systems Development is seeking a high-performing Energy Code Specialist with a strong knowledge of residential and commercial energy codes and a proven track record of successful project management and development and delivery of engaging training programs for design and construction industry professionals.

We focus on the development and delivery of creative and powerful solutions for energy efficiency programs and professionals. Our company provides a whole-systems approach to EE strategies through our work on advancing energy policies, designing and delivering cost-effective EE programs, and building software tools to improve data tracking and reporting. Our core business efforts span three major areas: 1) the delivery of high-impact EE programs for utilities, state agencies, and other organizations throughout the U.S.; 2) workforce development and industry training; and 3) the design and development of award-winning software platforms for energy simulation & building benchmarking.

Under the supervision of a Senior Program Manager, the Energy Code Specialist will be responsible for supporting energy code compliance/enhancement programs through residential and commercial energy code and building science subject matter expertise, development of training curricula and content, and delivery of training programs and custom technical assistance for code officials, builders, HVAC designers/contractors, and other building industry professionals. This person will also contribute to development of proposals for new program opportunities and play an active role in the efficiency industry, including representing PSD at regional and national conferences and trade shows.

Day-to-day responsibilities include:

-Training and/or Presentations – Develop technical training curricula and content, deliver training programs to building industry professionals, and represent PSD at regional and national conferences. Training may also consist of custom technical assistance for individual code offices or building industry professionals.

-Subject Matter Expertise – Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of residential and commercial national model energy codes, as well as specific energy code requirements in target states. Also, understand gaps in enforcement and compliance with the codes and how to address them.

-Program Management – Track progress to deliverables and meet deliverables within the specified timeframe.

-Proposal Development – contribute to development of RFP responses for new business opportunities as a subject matter expert and participate in presentations to potential clients.

This position is based out of Philadelphia, PA with regional travel up to 30% of the time, and regular overnight travel required.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree, 3+ years related experience in building plan reviews, inspections and/or design and construction, with ability to travel up to 30% regionally. Excellent interpersonal skills. Proven oral and written communication skills. Proficient in a variety of common software applications including SalesForce, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.


Preferred Requirements: Advanced degree in engineering or architecture. Sound knowledge of the energy efficiency industry and building science, including technical certifications such as RESNET, BPI, or LEED. Experience with training delivery and project management. Strong relationships with utility clients and industry partners a plus.
