Sustainable Comfort, Inc. is a green building and energy efficiency consulting firm with expertise in multifamily housing, seeking a Passive House focused Architectural Green Building Consultant to join our growing team. SCI works with development and construction teams throughout the greater Northeast Region to make better multifamily buildings, with a specific focus in ENERGY Star Homes, LEED for Homes, Enterprise Green Communities, Passive House, HERS Rating, State Incentive Programs, and Code Compliance.

Our focus is Sustainability & Green Buildings. SCI works with development and construction teams throughout the greater Northeast Region to make better multifamily buildings, with a specific focus in ENERGY Star Homes, LEED for Homes, Enterprise Green Communities, Passive House, HERS Rating, State Incentive Programs, and Code Compliance. The Green Building Consultant will work with a team of individuals to consult with architects, developers, and builders to develop building plans with an eye for sustainability to meet various energy efficiency and green building programs and work extensively with contractors to verify the construction is meeting all green building requirements.

Key Activities:

  • Assist with passive house feasibility studies, reviewing architectural, structural, and MEP drawings for low carbon buildings with all electric technologies and high-performance envelope systems to assess energy efficiency and green building techniques.
  • Prepare WUFI and related energy models such as Therm for multifamily buildings to estimate energy use, guide decision making, and facilitate the Phius certification process. Includes takeoffs, Sketchup, and other support calculations.
  • Assist with document collection, oversight, and verification of the Phius program.
  • Work with a team of individuals consulting with architects and developers to develop building plans with an eye for sustainability and meeting various energy efficiency and green building programs.
  • Understand building science principles, including thermal bridging and condensation potential, and advise on risk mitigation strategies.
  • Work with various green building programs such as EPA Energy Star, EPA Indoor airPLUS, DOE Zero Energy Ready Homes, and Passive House Certification programs.
  • Work in a fast paced, deadline driven environment to ensure work gets out the door on time.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Opportunity to travel to various multifamily housing construction sites.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or Associates degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, Environmental Science, or related discipline, or five (5) years of experience in the building trades.
  • Possess a professional demeanor in dealing with clients and team members.
  • Experience reviewing building designs including architectural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing. 
  • Prior experience with building science and passive building principles preferred.
  • Phius CPHC certification and WUFI modeling experience desirable.
  • Proficiency in SketchUp modeling and Microsoft Excel are desirable.
  • Experience drafting in Revit desirable.  
  • Be located within 50 miles of Worcester, MA or Syracuse, NY. Hybrid work from home position or full-time remote position in the Northeast. 
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Compensation: $50,000 - $65,000 or based on skills and experience.
