Essential Functions of an RFI, Modeler, & Rater

Essential Functions of an RFI

Physical:

  • Visiting construction sites at various stages of construction, including without sidewalks, questionable hand rails (2x4s), etc.
  • Climbing and standing on ladders up to 10 feet
  • Carrying equipment 50lbs, including up flights of stairs in buildings that may not have power yet or an elevator working yet
  • Standing for long periods of time
  • Driving for long periods of time

Cognitive:

  • Use of a digital camera
  • Use of Dropbox or similar digital file sharing system
  • Math:
    • Reading a tape measure
    • Reading building plans
    • Calculating linear footage, square footage, and volume
    • Basic algebra and geometry

Essential Functions of a Modeler

Physical:

  • Sitting for long periods of time
  • Extensive use of a computer, mouse and keyboard

Cognitive:

  • Use of Dropbox or similar digital file sharing system
  • Math:
    • Reading a tape measure
    • Reading building plans
    • Understanding linear footage, square footage, and volume
    • Basic algebra and geometry
  • Ability to conceptualize 3D assembly relationships from 2D photos or building plans
  • Ability to synthesize detailed data into the correct fields in the energy modeling software

Essential Functions of a Rater

All of the above, plus:

  • Major attention to detailed work
  • Understanding 3D HVAC systems and concepts like wattage, airflow, etc.
  • Understanding conversions between watts, therms, btus, etc.
  • Ability to articulate complex building science concepts to architects, builders and homeowners
