Rating Field Inspector wanted in NH or MA

Position: Rating Field Inspector

Description: A Rating Field Inspector conducts site visits of residential buildings under construction. They collect information about the energy attributes of the home. IE, windows, insulation types, mechanical specs, fuel source, etc. This is collected and shared via the use of an iPad and stored in the cloud. The RFI will also perform diagnostic testing including duct leakage, blower door testing and mechanical ventilation testing. This is an ideal position for someone interested in residential new construction and located in NH or Mass.

The Position: This position requires at least 50% travel time to visit sites and perform inspections, mileage is reimbursed at the IRS rate. Responsibilities may include performing blower door tests, HVAC duct leakage tests and other tests as needed. The ability to lift up to 40 lbs and use up to an 8' ladder is required. This position will work closely with other HERS raters on the ECA team to understand the needs of each project.  Additional responsibilities will also include analyzing plans and updating energy models. We will provide training in the use of all software and testing equipment. The successful candidate will have the following skills, competencies, and resources:

  • Willingness and ability to move and carry equipment for tests weighing up to 40lbs  
  • Ability to read house plans, drawings & 3D renderings
  • Knowledge of construction terms and definitions
  • Interest/background in building science
  • Solid math and geometry skills
  • Access to reliable transportation
  • Superior communication skills with clients and other team members
  • Ability to work independently with exceptional time management skills
  • Experience with 3D modeling software (SketchUp) preferred but not required
  • Motivation to get required certifications within 1 year of hire
  • LEED, BPI, RESNET/HERS certifications and solid knowledge of HVAC systems a plus, though not required.
